Site Update Posted on July 15, 2023 By Matt Goodbye Old Website I started this blog in May of 2015 mostly to test the difficulty level of making a website and blogging. Could I write blog posts every month? Every week? Did I have that much to say? It turns out that if you really want to, yes, you can put something together every month or even every week. And it gets easier the more you do it! I did find out that during market turndowns, I spent most of my effort writing and researching for my actual job and had little left over for this hobby. If you scroll through the archives, you’ll see months where there are several posts and then times where there’s radio silence. I also wanted to see if it was technically difficult to run a website. It turns out it was pretty easy and has only gotten easier over time with improvements aimed at html (or css) illiterates like me. Hello World My 13 year old said he found this website last night and wondered when I was going to update it. After months of communicating with me via eyeroll, I am suddenly interesting again. I was recently playing around with the format and getting familiar with some new tools, but that conversation was the final push I needed to pull the trigger and make some changes. Nothing huge, but I have changed the format to something hopefully cleaner and on the technical side, it plays nicer with code written this decade. Getting Back in the Game The plan for now is to write regularly again – about markets, news, and odd animal headlines. Then again, we’re hopefully getting a puppy later this year so there’s still time to just turn this whole thing into dog pictures. Anyway, I’ve resolved the technical issues plaguing the site for the last 6 months and updated the look so I don’t really have an excuse not to write. Until my next post, here are some of my favorite posts. I think they still hold up pretty well. Filthy Casual – The case against letting statistics hold your portfolio hostage. Pick Good Funds – This is an oldie, but still holds true. Why not just pick good funds? Wooden Nickels – If a coin flip lands heads-up 99 times in a row, what are the odds the next flip is heads? The Angels’ Share – Keep a sharp eye on expenses. Related Posts Two YearsI set up this website two years ago with no particular goal in mind.
